18th German Film Festival

In terms of program diversity, the 18th German Film Festival is like a patchwork map of Germany itself. A key message - the 30 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall - unites very diferent films: from light comedy 25 km/h to serious essay Träume von Räumen (Property). A feminist drama Nur eine Frau (A Regular Woman), an intellectual thriller Das Ende der Wahrheit (Blame Game) and a 3.5-hour documentary Heimat ist ein Raum aus Zeit talk about pressing issues. Each of the pictures is like a magnifying glass aimed at the culture of Germany, a specific look at its history and modern hopes.

The opening film Traumfabrik is a classic love story in the scenery of the oldest European film studio Babelsberg. A musical biopic Gundermann, winner of many German film awards, is an East Berlin melodrama as well. Der Junge muss an die frische Luft by Oscar-winning Carolina Link talks about childhood, and Deutschtunde, very opposite in the mood, continues the same theme. the Festival program includes two musical coming-of-age dramas: Prélude and O Beautiful Night. There's also a film for children and nature lovers: Checker Tobi und das Geheimnis unseres Planeten and the monumental documentary Russland von oben (Russia from above), showing other corners of the world. In the feature film section, an epic drama about the Germans in America Der Club der singenden Metzger (The Master Butcher) and a collection of short films Next Generation Short Tiger take up the subject.
