AMFEST. 14th American Film Festival

Within bilateral collaboration between Russia and USA, in association with the US Embassy in Moscow.

US cinema is not just a separate country on the art map of the planet; a whole continent where there is a place for a number of states. Hollywood with its colossal budgets and universal language stands close to independent experiments, author cinema. Moreover, the borders between all cinematic states are open - and the stars can play in a small film out of interest, not for profit, and directors who start with small works, now receive offers from major studios.

Variety and relevance is the motto of the Amfest festival, which annually presents the most interesting American news in Russia.  The festival has several poles. On one of them there is Abel Ferrara, a great master, whose new film Tommaso was shot in Rome and is characterized by amazingly intimate autobiographity. Ferrara personally presents this work in Moscow.

At the other extreme there's Brad Pitt and his melancholy space odyssey Ad Astra, by James Gray,

Also, this year we are glad to present LaBeouf’s The Peanut Butter Falcon; a short NIMIC by Lantimos, with the legendary Matt Dillon in the title role; The Farewell, a large family-run film novel by Lulu Wang; a romantic comedy Ode to Joy; a tender love story The Sound of Silence; an example of fashionable nostalgic trend, dedicated to the 1980s, a teenage thriller Low Tide and others.
