As part of our long-standing work with the Public Union for Social Assistance to people with hearing and speech impairments, we screen Nargiz, an Azerbaijani film in sign language

My name is Vusala Babayeva. I am a 29-year-old member of the Public Association of the Hearing-Impaired Individuals. We have very talented young people in our hearing-impaired social community. The head of this Public Union, Jamila, is our spiritual leader. Her daughter is also hearing impaired. That's why she understands us better and is interested in ensuring a better and brighter future for us. Our organization cooperates with many local and international companies including a project with my favourite British Council. With this project, I learned a very interesting dance form and travelled to many cities.

Regarding this film, I was very happy when I received an invitation from the head of our association to participate in its production. I was astonished when our director talked about it. The film reflects the sensitivity of a young girl named Nargiz towards her parents, unemployment and difficult family situation. Everyone who watches this twelve-minute film will have their own opinions. The plotline of this film is very different from the others. First of all, I would like to note that such film was made in Azerbaijan for the first time - a short, completely silent film that includes hearing-impaired cast. Usually, hearing-impaired people watch movies with subtitles. We read the subtitles and watch the movie, which is difficult for us and we also have to understand the movie. This film is the opposite. It is shown for the hearing-impaired audience, and healthy people understand the film by reading the subtitles. As an organization, this is how we wanted to demonstrate inclusion in society. This is an innovation. I believe this innovation will be highly appreciated in society. If you hear complete silence while watching the film, we wanted you to hear the "Voice of the Worlds" of hearing-impaired people. I invite you to watch the movie!
