N.I.C.E. New Italian Cinema Festival

Within bilateral collaboration, in association with the Embassy of Italy in Moscow.

In 2021, the N.I.C.E (New Italian Cinema Events) festival will be held from 7 to 11 April, traditionally at the Oktyabr Cinema Centre and the Engineering Building of the State Tretyakov Gallery. To the main mission of the festival - acquaintance with the new Italian cinema - this year was added another, no less important one - to take into account the need for a cinema that conveys the value of cultural difference and diversity.

Lovingly, carefully selected films by Italian filmmakers, fiction, short films and documentaries, are a real kaleidoscope of stories about the life and culture of Italy.

Feature films are represented by two family films - Magari, Glassboy and Mio fratello rincorre i dinosauri, a daring comedy on a current migration topic Easy Living and a psychological thriller Anja and Fortezza, starring the Civitavecchia prisoners.

The documentary section presents the history of Italian fashion through the eyes of the world famous female designer Il Mondo di MAD and the mystery of perhaps the most famous Italian cocktail Looking for Negroni.

Since this year, the program includes works on the topic of gender and social rights: Non sono io and In Her Shoes. Both films of this year are presented in partnership with the ChinematograFika project and the non-profit organization Cospe Onlus.

In an effort to present various facets of the Italian character and lifestyle through the lens of a movie camera, the festival has been supplemented with a separate section Musical Cinema. It will show 2 full-length films: Ammore e malavita and Passione by famous John Turturro.

The festival program this year also includes experimental cinema - the trilogy Trascendenze by Egidio Carbone Lucifero. This is a spiritual essay on the philosophy of acting, the embodiment of the "constitutive actor" theory, authored by the director himself.

All films are shown in the original language with Russian subtitles.
