The building was designed by architect Nikolai Blagoveshchensky and later reconstructed by Fyodor Shekhtel. Within its walls, Leo Tolstoy, Sergei Yesenin, and other legendary cultural figures once walked. In 1926, it hosted the premiere of Sergei Eisenstein’s iconic film Battleship Potemkin.
