The story is set in 1970s Moscow. Four youthhood friends — all former hipsters in their younger days — reunite twenty years after going their separate ways. They gather in a Moscow apartment to remember their vibrant youth, when jazz was their obsession. One of them, Bems (Albert Filozov), was once crazy about Glenn Miller; now he works as a construction engineer. Back in the 1950s, he ran into trouble with Ivchenko (Emmanuil Vitorgan), a Komsomol official who led the crackdown on jazz, which Soviet ideology saw as subversive. Bems was kicked out of college as a result and had to fight to stay afloat. Now, his biggest challenge is reaching his daughter — who wants nothing to do with him.
