Bassam Tariq

Born October 22, in Karachi, Pakistan. He co-directed and produced the Sundance-funded documentary These Birds Walk (2013) with Omar Mullick, and he was named in Filmmaker's "25 New Faces of Independent Film" in 2012. Tariq's works aim to uncover the diversity of Muslim life and experience. In addition to filmmaking, his diverse projects include blogging and writing, co-founding a halal butcher shop, and being a TED fellow.
Winner of the Filmmaker-to-Filmmaker Award at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival 2013 for the documentary These Birds Walk. Winner of the Short Film Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2019 for Ghosts of Sugar Land. Winner of the FIPRESCI Award at the Berlin Film Festival 2020 for the film Mogul Mowgli, the participant of the AMFEST*Fall.
