Alla Sigalova

Choreographer, director, actress and teacher, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation

Founder and artistic director of the "Alla Sigalova Independent Company", which became the first company in Russia to develop contemporary dance styles.

She graduated from the Leningrad Academic Choreographic School named after A. Y. Vaganova (now the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet), in the class of People's Artist of the USSR N. M. Dudinskaya, and from the directing faculty of GITIS, where her teachers were Anatoly Efros and Iosif Tumanov.

She taught at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS). She worked as a choreographer at the Satirikon Theatre named after A. Raikin. Alla Sigalova has staged more than 100 productions in Russia and abroad. Her works have been performed at such theatres as the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre, the Gorky Moscow Art Theatre, the Tabakov Theatre, the Mossovet Theatre, Lenkom, the Pushkin Theatre, as well as at the Novosibirsk, Perm, and Samara Opera and Ballet Theatres and the Mariinsky Theatre. Abroad, she has collaborated with the Opéra Bastille (Paris), La Monnaie (Brussels), the Bologna Municipal Opera, and other venues.

She heads the Department of "Plastic Education of the Actor" at the Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio and the Department of "Contemporary Choreography and Stage Dance" at GITIS.

Awards:
  • Order of Friendship (2019) – for significant contribution to the development of Russian culture and art;
  • Golden Mask Award (2008) – "For the fruitful synthesis of choreography and drama";
  • Government of the Russian Federation Prize in the field of culture (2013) – for the creation of the television program "Big Ballet";
  • Moscow Government Prize (2018) – for the creation of the production "Katerina Ilvovna" at the Moscow Oleg Tabakov Theatre.
