In Tony-winning director Des McAnuff's film The Tempest, Christopher Plummer takes the classical role of a lifetime to the big screen, starring as Prospero in Shakespeare's culminating masterpiece.
Marooned on a distant island with his daughter Miranda (Trish Lindstrom), Prospero (Christopher Plummer) has spent twelve years perfecting his magic arts. Now, with the help of the spirit Ariel (Julyana Soelistyo), he raises a storm at sea, bringing within his grasp the enemies who robbed him of his dukedom. But what vengeance does he propose to take?
The Tempest pits the desire for revenge against the demands of love and asks if man is capable of creating a brave new world. The story focuses on Prospero (Christopher Plummer), the banished Duke of Milan.

Des McAnuff is the Artistic Director of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival where he has been responsible for directing such plays and musicals as Caesar and Cleopatra, The Tempest, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, and Twelfth Night and the Tony Award winning director of such Broadway productions as Big River, The Who's Tommy, Jersey Boys and the upcoming Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Des has also directed the three motion pictures, The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Cousin Bette and the stage to screen production of The Tempest.
It could be said about Christopher Plummer that is arguably the finest actor of the post-World War II and the premier Shakespearean actor to come out of North America in the 20th century.
Though he likely always be remembered as "Captain Von Trapp" in The Sound of Music (1965), his later film work includes such outstanding performances in Murder by Decree, The Insider, A Beautiful Mind and as Leo Tolstoy in The Last Station, where he was nominated as Best Actor in a supporting role.
Plummer also remains one of the most respected and honored actors performing in the English language. He's won two Emmy Awards and for his stage work, Plummer has racked up two Tony Awards as Best Actor for the title role in "Cyrano" and the second in 1997, as Best Actor in "Barrymore". Plummer has also delivered stunning stage performances for The Stratford Shakespeare Festival's prpoductions of King Lear, Ceasar and Cleopatra and The Tempest.
