Cops (2018)

8th New Austrian Cinema Festival

Within Russian-Austrian collaboration, in association with the Embassy of Austria in Moscow.

The 8th festival of the new Austrian cinema consists of five most remarkable premieres concentrated on center and periphery theme. Not in topographical, but in cultural and social sense.

You’ll see new romantic comedy Love Machine. The protagonist, male gigolo (moreover, middle-aged, with a beard and a little goof), seems like an absurd experiment. However, the authors of the film rejected stereotypes and achieved a remarkable comic effect.

A drama Der Boden unter den Füßen (The Ground beneath my Feet) comes straight from the Berlinale. The new film by Marie Kreuzer is a reflection on women’s role in the modern world.

Zerschlag mein Herz (Break my heart) is a fascinating romance about two Slovak Romany teenagers’ love in Vienna. The clash of center and periphery is the reason for the film, full of passion and poetry.

Cops is an impressive mix of action and drama, a brutal film about police officers’ everyday routine, laced with deep psychological research.

And the opening film of the festival is Der Trafikant, a talented sample of traditional narrative cinema with a fascinating plot and brilliant actors' works, including one of the last roles by the great Bruno Ganz.

All films are shown in the original language with Russian subtitles.
